Anti-fraud

MIAA provides a professional Local Counter Fraud Service with a proven track record of successfully supporting clients in the implementation of the Department of Health’s Strategy on Countering Fraud and Corruption in the NHS.

We are able to provide a dedicated team of Local Counter Fraud Specialists (LCFS) who are capable of effectively delivering all your LCFS requirements. All our LCFS have undertaken specific training in respect of countering fraud and corruption and have gained accreditation within this field.

Proactive Services.

National Exercises . Our LCFS participate in national exercises organised by the NHS CFSMS that are designed not only to detect and stop fraud, but also to highlight system and policy weaknesses in the NHS, which can then be remedied. The results from these exercises are analysed and information sent to the whole of the NHS in England on how to improve systems and stop the fraudulent practices that put resources at risk.

Local Proactive Exercises . Our LCFS develop and deliver local proactive exercises to identify areas of risk or those with fraud potential for proactive work. The aims of these exercises are to strengthen/introduce policies and procedures to alleviate areas open to abuse.

Investigation Services.

Our Fraud Team has established close links with the NHS CFS Operational Service who act as a source of support and advice for the LCFS for investigative work they are undertaking. All investigative work is conducted with the highest levels of professionalism and skill and all suspicions of fraud received by our LCFS are investigated.

Some examples of areas where fraud is perpetrated ~

• Contractors and staff falsifying or inflating claims eg. Overtime, mileage, items of service.
• Staff falsifying information on application forms
• Patients evading prescription charges b y claiming false prescription charge exemption.
• False claims for travel expenses.
• False dental charge exemption claims by patients.
